Non-Fiction RR

                                                       Non-Fiction RR

In this article, I read about how scientists infer that residents of Jamestown, Virginia practiced cannibalism. "Skeletal remains of a Jamestown teen show signs of cannibalism in colonial America, new data show". The girl’s skull provides the first concrete support for historical accounts that some starving colonists had resorted to eating the flesh of others.ow. The girl’s skull provides the first concrete support for historical accounts that some starving colonists had resorted to eating the flesh of others." I believe that this statement is true because I read articles and books about cannibalism dating back to the Egyptian ages.
"Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas." People usually from other countries have different cultures and bring those unusual practices into America. But beside that, I would believe people did that because when you're starving and their isn't a edible food source available then you're to have to be forced to eat things very crazy.
"Archaeologist William Kelso, of the Jamestown Rediscovery Archaeological Project, made the discovery. When he observed that someone had apparently chopped the skull in two, Kelso contacted Douglas Owsley. He’s an anthropologist with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Owsley led the study of Jane’s skull and shinbone. His team found cuts in the girl’s skull made after death. Her brain had been removed, as had other tissues." This sounds like cannibalism to me because i don't  think skulls naturally split in half when you die. Some one must ripped off the flesh from the head, then used a sharp object, probably a butcher knife, and sliced through the head and removed the brain and probably ate it :p.
I used some quotes from the article to help prove that cannibalism might've been uncommon in the 1600's. The biggest clue is the head found by scientists which was cut in half and has had the brain removed. In conclusion, Cannibalism may have been practiced in the 1600's.
