Non-Fiction RR

                                                       Non-Fiction RR

In this article, I read about how scientists infer that residents of Jamestown, Virginia practiced cannibalism. "Skeletal remains of a Jamestown teen show signs of cannibalism in colonial America, new data show". The girl’s skull provides the first concrete support for historical accounts that some starving colonists had resorted to eating the flesh of others.ow. The girl’s skull provides the first concrete support for historical accounts that some starving colonists had resorted to eating the flesh of others." I believe that this statement is true because I read articles and books about cannibalism dating back to the Egyptian ages.
"Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas." People usually from other countries have different cultures and bring those unusual practices into America. But beside that, I would believe people did that because when you're starving and their isn't a edible food source available then you're to have to be forced to eat things very crazy.
"Archaeologist William Kelso, of the Jamestown Rediscovery Archaeological Project, made the discovery. When he observed that someone had apparently chopped the skull in two, Kelso contacted Douglas Owsley. He’s an anthropologist with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Owsley led the study of Jane’s skull and shinbone. His team found cuts in the girl’s skull made after death. Her brain had been removed, as had other tissues." This sounds like cannibalism to me because i don't  think skulls naturally split in half when you die. Some one must ripped off the flesh from the head, then used a sharp object, probably a butcher knife, and sliced through the head and removed the brain and probably ate it :p.
I used some quotes from the article to help prove that cannibalism might've been uncommon in the 1600's. The biggest clue is the head found by scientists which was cut in half and has had the brain removed. In conclusion, Cannibalism may have been practiced in the 1600's.

Romeo and Juliet (Revised)

                                       Romeo and Juliet (Revised)

The Love between Romeo and Juliet is so intense, it has positive and negative consequences. Their lust has changed them to the point where they are all they think about and that has become a horrible factor in this story.
In  Act 2 scene 6, Romeo and Juliet get married thanks to Friar Lawrence. This shows one of the positives of the love between these two. But she is also disobeying her parents by not marrying her predetermined husband.
As I stated before, their lust has changed them completely, so in act 3 scene 1 it just proves my point. In that scene, Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio are confronted by Tybalt and his men where Tybalt decides to pick a fight with Romeo. But because Romeo is a married man (to Juliet) he decides to back down, which just makes Mercutio want fight Tybalt for Romeo. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo has vengeance and kills Tybalt which just makes it even worse for him and he is banished from Verona. Romeo believed that because he is married to Juliet that he shouldn't fight but that just made him lose one of his best friends and kill Juliet's cousin. In Act 5 scene 3, Romeo confronts the unconscious Juliet because he heard about her death. He battles and kills Paris and Romeo finds Juliet thinking that she's dead. He takes the poison and drinks it while Juliet wakes up to find Romeo dead from the poison. It's really selfish how Juliet setup this whole faking death plan so Romeo could save her from marrying her predetermined husband, Paris. Their love is extremely dangerous. Also in act 5 scene 3, romeo ends up killing Paris because he desperately wants to see Juliet. Romeo's love causes him to commit violence throughout the story. Love makes you do crazy things.
Their love for each other is a major event and has caused an uproar in Verona but out of all this craziness, because of Romeo and Juliet's tragic story, the rivalry of the Capulets and Montagues in Verona has ended. In the craziness of act 5 scene 3, the Prince, the Capulets, and the Montagues crowd into the tomb to see the Romeo and Juliet, both dead, lying beside each other. The Prince's guards drag in the Friar, who apparently left Juliet alone in the tomb at some point. He tells the whole story. Lord Capulet and Lord Montague, both grief-stricken, swear to end their feud and to build statues to commemorate each other's child. The Prince says that some of those involved in Romeo and Juliet's death will be pardoned, and some will be punished. "For never was a story of more woe," the Prince says, "Than this of Juliet and her Romeo." Even though this is the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, in some way this can be interpreted as a twisted happy ending.
The tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a nice and beautiful story but beauty is seen through the eyes. Their young love has not only caused more disturbance between the two families, but also the death of two people who only wanted love each other. In conclusion, these are the positive and negative effects of Romeo and Juliet's love.

Romeo and Juliet

                                                          Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet's love for each other is a great and wonderful story but their love has also caused some intense situations to happen. Their love has made Romeo kill himself, Juliet disobey her father, but also made the rivalries of the Capulets and the Montagues disband. Their lust has changed each other to the point where are all they think about.
Another reason why their love is dangerous is because now that Romeo, a Montague, is in love with Juliet, a Capulet, all the attention is on them so it wouldn't be surprising for a Capulet to attack Romeo or for a Montague attack Juliet. For example, Tybalt attacked and wounded Mercutio so in return, Romeo killed Tybalt. Therefore, Romeo was banished from Verona. If Romeo never had fallen in live with Juliet, all of this attention wouldn't have fallen on him. Not saying that she never be in love but this is something they should be careful about.
Their love for each other is major event and has caused an uproar in Verona but out of all this craziness, because of Romeo and Juliet's tragic story, the rivalry of the Capulets and Montagues in Verona has ended.
The tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a nice and beautiful story but beauty is seen through the eyes. Their young love has not only caused more disturbance between the two families, but also the death of two people who only wanted love each other.

Reading Response 4/16

Book: Summer of Secrets
Author: Paul Langan

In the book, Summer of Secrets, Darcy Wills is a teenage girl who attends Bluford High School and doesn't live a normal life. After she met a boy named Brian Mason a few weeks ago, everything has changed. He invited Darcy to spend some alone time with her so when she said yes, that's when he attacked her. He pinned her against the couch and started to kiss her and touch her all over her body. After her dad came to save her, she was never the same, she now fears boys! Even though when people face tragedies like this during childhood and are usually scarred, she took this to another level and even attacked another boy named Troy who was being friendly towards her.
During the story, Darcy and her old friend Brisana went to the mall to catch up and go shopping but as they pass by a group of boys who try to flirt with them, she completely panics. Not only does she quickly leave without an answer but her heart is pounding with fear and she continuously looks behind her to make sure they weren't following them. And that's not all, she has been holding this secret for a long time with only her family knowing. Her friends are wondering what is her problem (especially Brisana and Troy), and all she does is lie. I understand that you're traumatized from that moment but you gotta understand that holding it and hiding is only going to make it worse, especially when it's eating you up emotionally.
I personally think that Darcy is being selfish with this matter and that she is overreacting, but i don't know what it's like to be traumatized as a child so I shouldn't really be judging her on this.

Jamaican Chicken Patties

Oh I Love Chicken Patties, oh my god
I usually go to Golden Krust
I even have reggae on my ipod
For me Jamaican patties are a must
My Favorite is the chicken Roti
But them chicken patties come out on yop
Even though I am from the place Haiti
That yellow patty makes me want to flop
There is a Bruce's that sells them all day
With Coco bread it's the best thing ever
It's the only one eighty nine, no, NO WAY!
But it will take you out of the weather
I promise you will not be a fatty
Your life will be changed by this one patty

Reading Response

          The Wednesday War

    by: Gary D. Schmidt

In the entire book, Holling Hoodhood complains and states that Mrs. Baker, his seventh grade teacher is "out to get him. But really I think that she sees potential in him and makes him work harder just so he can see.
In the beginning of the book, as Mrs. Baker gives everyone sentences, she gave Meryl Lee: The Brook flows down the pretty mountain, Danny Hupfer: He kicked the round ball into the goal, Mai Thi: The girl walked home (because she doesn't speak english that well), Doug Swieteck: I read a book, and Holling: For it so falls out, that what we have we prize not to the worth whiles we enjoy it; but being lacked and lost, why, then we rack the value, then we find virtue that possession would not show us while it was ours. She challenges him and he sees a vicious teacher but later on she shows she cares.
Another reason why she isn't "out to get him" is because she gave him a Julius Caesar book to read outside of class and to report the finished book back to her with a very long summary. Giving him and assignment exclusively for him is showing that she cares. She wants to see him exceed outside of school that's why she also told him he should join the shakespear play.
At the end of the book, she shows that she's proud of him for showing that he is a great student and they got to cooperate. He also realizes too.
